Just an FYI... those pruned immature melons are GREAT pickled!! Try it sometime. Do it just like you would make your pickles with cucumbers!

Thank you so much for the info. This is my first year growing the crimson sweet melon in the DFW area and they seem to be doing well. I didn't think about pruning them. I have several growing on one vine so this was very helpful. It's nice to see you and your family working together. Thanks again 😊.

Hey , I have a question? How is your soil? I have a sandy and clay type soil with about 20 percent good topsoil. I always heard you need a sandy type soil. But my question is... i live in central louisiana and neither me, nor my grandmother's dad,(who used to own this same land) never could grow them in poland/echo, La
I get huge vines that stretch out and so I usually get lots of huge plants and buds but NO MELONS!!! Any suggestions?

So, leave 2 melons per vine and clip the vine after the melons, leaving the little tendril that grows opposite of the melons. Right?

I never knew about pruning water melon vines. My Crimson Sweets are running ALL over and out of my garden. Thank you so much!

I am only growing two watermelon plants, but I like the idea of just allowing one melon per vine.

Watermelons have to have at least 15 or more bee visits inorder to get proper fruit set besides melons/squash etc are known for aborting fruit

I wish I say your video earlier in the year. I grew watermelons in Boston with some success but the watermelon was not very sweet. Next year I will prune like you did. How did you harvest finally end up? Did you get the 20 watermelons you wanted to harvest?
