Bobby Jones was one of the toughest tenor sax players ever. Listen to his solo on Caledonia, the last track of this album. I always thought Nistico took the whole solo. Bobby was first. You can hear he was much more articulate than Nistico. Bobby also let me use his clarinet when i was 10 in 1971 in a gin joint. My dad was a drummer that ran the music on Sunday nights on W.23rd St.

My Tribute to tenorist Sal Nistico who takes the solo here at 1:18 => My 34 minute video compilation of 19 of his solos with Woody’s Band in 1963 & 1964 - extracted from 5 TV Shows (“Jazz Casual”, BBC/TV, and Montreal/TV). Every time I watch that man play, ALL I can do is shake my head in disbelief. To say nothing of Woody’s ‘63-64 band. Here’s to YOU, Sal. https://youtu.be/a8Gml5uK-YI
