  • I do not own the rights to this video. It is owned by MTV. I am simply posting this for people to see how great MTV was and for you to see how it all started.

On August 1, 1981, at 12:01 a.m., MTV launched with the words "Ladies and gentlemen, rock and roll," spoken by John Lack, and played over footage of the launch of Apollo 11. Those words were immediately followed by the original MTV theme song, a crunching classical tune composed by Jonathan Elias and John Petersen, playing over photos of the Apollo 11 moon landing, with the flag featuring MTV's logo changing various colors, textures, and designs. 172.68.132.31

I didnโ€™t get MTV for almost 7 years. On my cable system MTV wasnโ€™t available for free. It was a pay TV service and mom and dad didnโ€™t want to spend the extra money to get MTV so no MTV in my house for almost 7 years when music videos were real good.

I remember they wouldn't play baby's got back from Sir Mix-A-Lot until after 9 p.m. at night because the girls were "shaking it like it was hot" in the video.

Just like all things - progressiveness eventually turned MTV into something no one is interested in or likes. The same can be said for the current โ€œanti American โ€œ attitude sweeping across America in 2019. Pushing the envelope just to push it - especially when itโ€™s not needed.

You're totally lit if you grew up in a different era when MTV used to play music videos 24/7 as well as video countdowns. You couldn't wait until you got home to catch up some fresh interviews of then new realest artists and/or groups and a world premiere video. When music videos be playing, you would hit that record button to tape them via VCR so you wouldn't miss any of your favorite videos. There was so many to choose from. The mainstream was too real.
